Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and professional Armed Security Officer to support safety and security operations within an inpatient hospice and palliative care center. The ideal candidate is disciplined, highly observant, and committed to providing a secure yet welcoming environment for patients, clinical staff, and grieving families. This role involves performing duties that include strict access control operations, monitoring camera footage, responding effectively to emergencies, conducting facility patrols, and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere. Officers must maintain a courteous, empathetic, and professional demeanor at all times, recognizing the highly sensitive emotional nature of the facility.

• Pay Rate: $19.00 to $19.50 per hour
Availability & Schedule:
• Hours: 40 hours
• Schedule: Monday 0000-0800; Thursday to Sunday 0800-1600

Specific Duties and Essential Functions
• Permit authorized persons to enter the property by verifying guest, vendor, and staff credentials, and strictly monitoring all entrances and exits to ensure a secure clinical environment.
• Courteously but firmly deny entry to unauthorized individuals or those violating 24/7 visitation guidelines, carefully de-escalating potential conflicts with emotionally distressed visitors.
• Actively monitor CCTV camera footage and alarm systems to maintain constant site awareness without disrupting the clinical environment.
• Respond promptly to all incidents, medical emergencies, and disturbances on the property, assisting nurses and palliative care staff as needed.
• Sound alarms or call police/fire/EMS departments immediately in the event of fire, severe medical emergencies, or the presence of unauthorized persons.
• Conduct regular foot patrols (interior and exterior) to watch for irregular or unusual conditions, safety hazards, or unauthorized access.
• Investigate and prepare detailed, chronological reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities for facility management and HR records.
• Maintain comprehensive daily activity logs to ensure all shift events are clearly and accurately documented.
• Provide high-level customer service by aiding and guiding patients, family members, employees, and visitors in a compassionate and professional manner.
• Act as a visual deterrent to crime while maintaining a low-profile, respectful presence that preserves the dignity and tranquility of the care center.
Licensing
• Possess valid Florida Class D security license
• Possess valid Driver’s License
Minimum Requirements
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 21 years of age or older
• Ability to pass background screening and drug test
• Ability to pass a mental health assessment
• Reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications
• 1 year of experience in a healthcare, hospital, or hospice environment performing patrol, access control, and security dispatch duties
• Experience with CCTV and electronic access control systems
• Experience interacting with patients or families in high-stress or emotionally delicate situations
Other
• Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
• Must be able to successfully complete all training required for the position
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
• Indoor and outdoor assignments: Primarily indoor facility monitoring with occasional exposure to various weather conditions during exterior patrols.
• Major Activities: Extended standing, walking, and sitting. Listening, observing, and communicating.
• Stationary & Mobile Positions: Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) at the entrance desk, walk for extended periods, traverse the facility, or move between posts for the duration of an 8-hour shift.
• Emergency Response: Must be able to react quickly to emergency situations, which may include running, navigating obstacles, or assisting clinical staff with facility evacuations.
• Sensory Abilities: Must have the visual acuity to monitor CCTV and observe surroundings, and the auditory ability to respond to alarms and communicate clearly.
• Effective Communication: Ability to clearly exchange information, provide sensitive instructions, and draft strictly factual written reports in English.
• Cognitive Load: Must maintain mental alertness and attention to detail during long periods of observation, while managing the emotional weight of a palliative care environment.
